Dental Assisting is a progressive and dynamic health care profession. During the nine-month training program students develop knowledge and skills to assume a variety of dental assisting responsibilities.

At chairside, dental assistanting students learn to transfer instruments, mix restorative materials, take impressions, expose dental radiographs, perform coronal polishes and provide oral healthcare instructions to patients. Students graduate with certifications that are required for dental assistants to perform expanded functions in the state of Missouri.

After acquiring an extensive background in dental materials, students become skilled in dental laboratory procedures. They work with business office forms and make computerized entries to gain a working knowledge of dental business office procedures.

Students complete more than 300 clock hours in clinical rotations in a combination of three general practices and two select specialty practices in Central Missouri.

The Dental Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. Upon successful completion of the program, students become eligible to sit for the dental assisting national board examination to earn the designation of "Certified Dental Assistant."
